Accumulator is an energy storage device in hydraulic pneumatic system. It converts the energy in the system into compressive energy or potential energy at a proper time and stores it. When the system needs it, it converts the compressive energy or potential energy into hydraulic or pneumatic energy and releases it to replenish the system. When the instantaneous pressure of the system increases, it can absorb this part of energy to ensure the normal pressure of the whole system.
Accumulators have two uses.
(1)When the load moves at a low speed, the required flow rate is less than that of the hydraulic pump, and the excess flow rate of the hydraulic pump is stored in the accumulator; when the required flow rate of the load is greater than that of the hydraulic pump, the liquid is released from the accumulator to make up for the shortage of the hydraulic pump flow rate.
(2)when the machine stops but still needs to maintain a certain pressure, the hydraulic pump can be stopped and the accumulator can compensate the leakage of the system to maintain the pressure of the system.
The accumulator can also be used to absorb the pressure pulsation of the hydraulic pump or the hydraulic impact pressure generated in the system. The pressure in the accumulator can be generated by compressed gas, heavy hammer or spring, and accordingly the accumulator can be divided into gas type, heavy hammer type and spring type. The direct contact between gas and liquid in gas accumulator is called contact type, which has simple structure and large capacity, but gas is easily mixed in liquid, and is often used in hydraulic press. Gas that does not contact with liquid is called isolation type, which is usually isolated by skin and diaphragm. The change of skin volume is large, but the change of diaphragm volume is small, which is often used to absorb pressure pulsation. Heavy hammer has a large capacity and is often used in rolling mills and other systems for storage.
